PUBLIC NOTICE Annette Island School District April 8, 2025 Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff, and Community Members: This notice is to inform you that a small plastic bag (1”x1”), with smiley faces on it, was found in the Metlakatla High School Hallway. This baggie had a small amount of residue in it that tested positive for methamphetamine (Meth). Through video evidence, we have determined that the baggie was stuck on the bottom of a student’s shoe and inadvertently was brought into the school. The student was unaware of the baggie or its contents. It was simply tracked into the building. A school employee found the baggie on the floor of the hallway and turned it over to administration, who then contacted the police. We have no evidence to suggest that Meth is being distributed or consumed in the schools. However, evidence shows that Meth is on the island and is being distributed through small baggies with yellow smiley faces on it. If you or your child come across these baggies or other drug paraphernalia on campus, including the playground and covered area, please contact the police and inform administration. By being aware and working together, we can ensure our schools remain safe places for students, staff, and guests. Sincerely, M.
