Mason Nelson created this stunning paddle in Native Arts class! Mason, a senior at MHS, is interested in both digital and traditional art. She has been working on the paddle since the beginning of the school year: carving, sanding, designing, transferring, and painting her stunning design inspired by her Raven clan. She included a hand to symbolize people, as well as a salmon. Well done, Mason! #mhs #metlakatlahighschool #aisd #aisdproud #tsimshian #nativeart #metlakatla #alaska #student #artist

Our 3rd Graders heard the adaawx (story) of Txaamsm (Raven) and Lagaboola (Raven's brother), and threw paper airplanes to recreate the brother's competition. Thank you to Mr. Nelson for a great lesson and picture! "Long ago Txaamsm and Lagaboola had an argument about where the ooligans should run, and they opted to have a contest to see who would get it. They held a contest where each would throw a spear at a plank with a knot hole in it. The one who would make it through the hole would be the winner and from that day forth the ooligans would only run in their river. Txaamsm represented the Skeena River and Lagaboola represented the Nass River. In the end, Lagaboola won, and now ooligans only run in the Nass river!" #rjes #richardjohnsonelementary #aisd #aisdproud #metlakatla #alaska #education #school #tsimshian #tsimshiannation

Dylan made some of the parts with his High School instructor Tyson Hayward. The ramp is hung with the new 1/2" steel hangers that Mr. Hayward and Dylan built at school. My name is Mrs. Chelsea martinez and I am the HS Counselor at MHS for AISD. I am writing to request your support for our graduating class of 2022. This class will be seeking scholarships to aid the increasing costs of post-secondary education. The Class of 2022 is a group of fourteen driven and talented cohort of students at MHS. Some are looking to attend schools to receive their Bachelor's degree, some their Associate's degree, and others are eager to become certified in their vocation. If your business or associated group is interested in providing scholarship fund to which this class can apply for, it would be greatly appreciated. The scholarship winner would be announced at the graduation ceremony in May and AISD business office would distribute funds accordingly. If you have specific stipulations you wish to add to your generous contribution please forward the application and I will pass it along to the seniors. All funds can be payable to: AISD memo 2020 Scholarships. Attention: Charlene Jimenez PO Box 7 Metlakatla, AK 99926. 907-886-6332. Fax 907-886-5130.
