Today is Txa’nii k’abatgüüłga łikłut’iksit (Every Child Matters), National Orange Shirt Day, or as it's also called, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

It is a day of remembrance which recognizes the atrocities and multi-generational effects of residential boarding schools. We wear orange to remember the children who were lost, to honor the survivors and their families, and to show commitment to the phrase, Txa’nii k’abatgüüłga łikłut’iksit (Every Child Matters).

The tradition of wearing orange on September 30th was started by Phyllis Webstad, a survivor of a residential boarding school. You can read about her story here: https://orangeshirtday.org/phyllis-story/#story.

We invite our community to join our Resiliency Assembly in honor of Orange Shirt Day this Friday, October 3rd, at 12:30 pm, and to join our Indian Parent Committee for their meeting today (Tuesday 9/30) at 4:00 pm in the MHS Library.
