Here's what the nominator had to say:
"Tadd has a unique ability to connect with every student, especially those who may not always thrive in traditional classroom settings. He makes learning engaging, meaningful, and helps students see their own strengths to open doors to future careers in the trades, engineering, and beyond. Each day, Tadd blends academic rigor with real-world relevance. Whether they’re building a project, repairing equipment, or designing something from scratch, students are guided by Tadd’s patience, expertise, and unwavering belief in the potential of every student."
Congratulations, Tadd!

Here's what Matthew had to say:
"On September 30th, I traveled to Minneapolis with a group of roughly 15 people for the AISES Nationals Science Fair. I was invited to this because I got 2nd place at the regional one in Juneau. At both, I presented a research poster that I worked on while doing the RASOR Program during my junior year, on the European Green Crab. I did not place at the National event, but one team from Alaska did. We also attended the College and Career fair in Minneapolis, and even attended a final pow-wow as our closing celebration. I would like to thank Ian Hudson and Kari Lanphier for all of their help in the project! As well as the UAS Rasor program."
Great work, Matthew! We're so proud of you!

Recently, RJES Music Teacher Danielle Koch approached Secondary Shop Teacher Tadd Yliniemi about the possibility of creating tables for the RJES xylophones and metallophones. He came up with a brilliant idea of repurposing desk legs from desks no longer in use, and having one of his classes make tops to fit the instruments!
A few weeks ago, one of his classes delivered the tables to the RJES Music room, and a few days later, the class that created the tables came to see their work in action, learning how to play them.
The impact of these tables in the Music Room is huge: now students can stand to play instead of having to sit on their knees in front of them, and the tables allow for great space saving in our room. T'oya̱xsut 'nüüsm to Tadd and his students for making these desks, and for personally delivering them to the RJES Music Room!
